The Knights of Communication – a competition under the patronage of Federal Councillor Moritz Leuenberger
The "Knights of Communication" is a competition which has been organized by the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) since 2001. The competition under the patronage of Federal Councillor Moritz Leuenberger honours projects that make a significant contribution to the information society.
Competition 2009
The "Knights of Communication 2009" will receive a total of CHF 35,000. CHF 10,000 has been earmarked for the three best projects which enable the Swiss population to use information and communication technologies (ICT) for their own purposes. The "Security and confidence" special prize honours a project that focuses on the security-conscious use of these technologies and which promotes appropriate confidence. This will be rewarded with a prize of CHF 5,000.
Recognition for existing projects
The "Knights of Communication" is regarded as a recognition award. It honours projects and initiatives that have already been implemented. The winners will be announced on 10 November 2009 at the national "Integrative Information Society" conference in Solothurn.
The Federal Council's strategy for an information society in Switzerland
The competition makes a contribution towards the implementation of the Federal Council's strategy for an information society in Switzerland. One goal of this strategy is to ensure equitable access to ICT for all residents without barriers, and to promote the competent, self-dependent use of these technologies. In December 2008, the Federal Council acknowledged the implementation work being carried out on its strategy and in so doing emphasised the significance of issues of security and confidence for the information society.
More detailed information concerning the competition is available in German, French and Italian only.
