Telephone numbers starting with 0900, 0901, 0906

These "value-added service numbers", also called "premium-rate numbers", clearly meet a need and represent a simple method of paying for certain services. In the vast majority of cases, operation of these numbers complies with the rules which are in force. But it is important to remain vigilant when dialling these numbers: the charges are sometimes very high and abuses do occur.

For example, these numbers allow you:

  • to reserve a train ticket or a ticket for an event,
  • to find help for your computer or legal problems,
  • to find out your horoscope for the day,
  • to call adult entertainment services.

When you call a number starting with 090x, you pay:

  • the standard charge for a call,
  • a supplement for the service provided.

The 3 types of numbers

  • 0900: business and marketing
examples: help desk, information service, ticket sales and reservations, or sales of other services or products, etc.
  • 0901: entertainment
examples: horoscopes, "chat forums", games, telephone competitions, surveys, etc.
  • 0906: adult entertainment
    example: sex lines

These numbers are also used as fax numbers. However, they cannot be used as internet access numbers (PC dialers).

Who offers these services?

0900, 0901 and 0906 numbers are allocated by OFCOM directly to content providers. Since 1 February 2005, the latter must indicate a correspondence address in Switzerland if they are based abroad. The names and addresses of number holders are published on the OFCOM website:
