Model aircraft in the 35 MHz and 40 MHz frequency range

The 23 channels in the 35.000 MHz to 35.220 MHz range are available in Switzerland exclusively for radio controlled model aircraft. With effect from 1 January 2013, the 18 channels in the 40 MHz band can no longer be used for model aircraft.

The 18 channels in the range 40.715 MHz to 40.985 MHz which were available for the remote radio control of model aircraft can continue to be used for model aircraft until 31 December 2012. These channels are shared with other users, therefore interference-free operation cannot be guaranteed after this date.

Consequences for radio remote controls:

From 1 January 2013, radio remote controls on the 18 channels in the frequency range 40.715 MHz - 40.985 MHz may be placed on the market only if the following requirements are also fulfilled:

  • User information must be complemented in such a way that the user is made aware that equipment operated in Switzerland after 1 January 2013 in the frequency range 40.715 MHz - 40.985 MHz is exclusively for models which are intended to be used on the ground (e.g. model cars, model boats).
  • The marking on the equipment and its packaging must be complemented with the class identifier shown below:

Consequences for complete sets (radio remote controls for model aircraft):

From 1 January 2013, complete sets of radio remote controls on the 18 channels in the frequency range 40.715 MHz - 40.985 MHz and model aircraft equipped with a receiver (package marked e.g. with RTF = ready to fly) may be placed on the market only if the following requirements are also fulfilled:

  • It must be clearly indicated that the radio equipment in this combination (with a model aircraft) using the frequency range 40.715 MHz - 40.985 MHz cannot be used in Switzerland after 1 January 2013.
  • The marking on the equipment and its packaging must be complemented with the class identifier shown below:
The 4 channels in the 40.665 to 40.695 MHz range (ISM band) according to RIR1007-03 are not affected by this regulation and will continue to be available for all types of remote controls.

The technical parameters and requirements are described in the radio interface regulations RIR1007-02, RIR1007-03 and RIR 1007-05.
