e-Inclusion - the integrative information society

On the basis of the Federal Council's strategy for an information society in Switzerland, the final documents of the World Summit on the information society (WSIS) and the Riga ministerial declaration, a "Swiss Digital Integration Network" has been set up in 2007, with representatives of public institutions, interest groups and the business sector. The members of the network decided to draw the national action plan entitled "e-Inclusion – information and communication technologies for an integrative society".

Network "Swiss Digital Integration"

Since the end of 2006, the Coordination Office Information Society is building up the "Swiss Digital Integration " network, focusing on projects to promote the integration of all habitants of Switzerland in the information society. The network is composed by representatives of public institutions, interest groups and the business sector, committed to launch projects and initiatives in the framework of "e-inclusion" and to assure their implementation.

To join the network

Anyone and any organisation in Switzerland can join the network at any time. The condition is the submission of a project to promote digital integration to the network via the Coordination Office Information Society, which acts as the secretariat for the network.

National Action Plan "e-Inclusion – information and communication technologies for an integrative society"

The network and its national action plan focus on groups of people who are in the majority currently excluded from the benefits of the information society and who would derive special benefit from applying ICT skills: older employees, seniors, migrants and the disabled.

The action plan envisages the following key areas for action:
  • Promotion of equal access to ICT, digital content and services, and the use of these by all;
  • Promoting technical and content-related skills for using ICT;
  • Promoting pluralism, cultural identity and linguistic diversity in the digital environment in order to integrate everyone;
  • Promoting quality of life through ICT.
At the level of implementation, the network's members have committed themselves in practical terms to launching projects and initiatives for equal-opportunity integration of all in the information society and to supporting their implementation. These can be found in the annex to the Action Plan (for the moment only in German, French and Italian).
