Model aircraft in the 35 MHz and 40 MHz frequency range

23 channels in the 35.000 MHz to 35.220 MHz range are available in Switzerland exclusively for radio controlled model aircraft. The 18 channels in the 40 MHz band cannot be used for model aircraft.

Radio remote controls on the 18 channels in the frequency range 40.715 MHz - 40.985 MHz may be placed on the market only if the following requirements are also fulfilled:

  • User information must be complemented in such a way that the user is made aware that equipment operated in Switzerland in the frequency range 40.715 MHz - 40.985 MHz is exclusively for models which are intended to be used on the ground (e.g. model cars, model boats).
  • The packaging must bear the indication of a restriction in Switzerland (more information).

Consequences for complete sets (radio remote controls for model aircraft):

Complete sets of radio remote controls on the 18 channels in the frequency range 40.715 MHz - 40.985 MHz and model aircraft equipped with a receiver (package marked e.g. with RTF = ready to fly) may be placed on the market only if the following requirements are also fulfilled:

  • It must be clearly indicated that the radio equipment in this combination (with a model aircraft) using the frequency range 40.715 MHz - 40.985 MHz cannot be used in Switzerland.
  • The packaging must bear the indication of a restriction in Switzerland (more information).

The 4 channels in the 40.665 to 40.695 MHz range (ISM band) according to RIR1007-03 are not affected by this regulation and will continue to be available for all types of remote controls.

The technical parameters and requirements are described in the radio interface regulations RIR1007-02, RIR1007-03 and RIR 1007-05.
