Extension of the contract with ombudscom for the telecoms industry’s dispute resolution service

The ombudscom foundation will continue to operate the official dispute resolution service for the telecommunications industry provided for in the Telecommunications Act. The Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) has agreed a new contract for the period from 1 July 2018 to 31 December 2023.

Since 2008 the ombudscom foundation has been providing the dispute resolution activity in the telecommunications market on behalf of OFCOM in accordance with the provisions of the Telecommunications Act (TCA). On the basis of the services provided and the positive experience, OFCOM is again delegating the dispute resolution activity to ombudscom for a further term which expires at the end of 2023.

The ombudscom foundation operates an independent, impartial and efficient dispute resolution service. It mediates in disputes between customers and telecommunications / value-added service providers and seeks to reach an out-of-court solution. In the previous delegation period, between 2013 and the end of 2017, ombudscom responded to 24'794 enquiries and processed 6'204 cases.

The foundation
The founders of the foundation are the telecoms companies (Salt mobile SA, Sunrise Communications AG, Swisscom (Schweiz) AG, UPC Schweiz GmbH), consumer organisations and the Swiss Association Added Value Services (SAVASS). The foundation's board consists of industry representatives, representatives of consumer organisations (ACSI, FRC, kf) and independent persons. From 1 July 2018 the foundation will be chaired by Mrs Corina Casanova, former federal chancellor; Dr Oliver Sidler will act as ombudsman. OFCOM exercises supervision over the dispute resolution service.
