Bluetooth technology is an open communication standard enabling bidirectional data transmission to be established between computers, tablets or smartphones and their peripherals, as well as various types of domestic electronic devices, via a short-distance radio link (UHF).
Bluetooth technology is a standard which makes it possible to set up data transmission between office computers and laptops, digital organisers, smartphones, printers, scanners, video cameras and digital cameras, as well as various types of domestic and personal electronic devices, via a low-power radio link. In addition, Bluetooth makes it possible to eliminate the usual spaghetti of cables connecting digital devices.
Bluetooth uses radio transmission in the reserved ISM (Industrial, Scientific & Medical) frequency band. This range is free from any rights and is identical throughout the world (2.4 GHz - 2.4835 GHz). It therefore allows travellers to use their devices on all continents. The frequency-hopping technique (1600 hops a second) guarantees the quality and security of transmissions and the absence of interference with other devices.
Currently, specification 4.2 (2014), increasingly intended for connected objects, integrates the IPv6 and 6LowPAN protocols. This new standard allows even higher data transfer rates, with much reduced energy consumption (LowEnergy).
