Data policy

In order to ensure that Switzerland remains an attractive data location for the economy and the population, the Federal Council intends to continue to promote free access to official datasets. At its meeting of 9 May 2018, the Federal Council specified the initial benchmarks for its data policy and put in place measures in relation to open data and data portability.

Study Big Data: Opportunities, risks and need for action by the Confederation

The study can be downloaded without fees (study in German; summary in English).

It consists of a qualitative survey of 20 industry, government and civil society experts and a quantitative survey of over 800 people in Switzerland. The aim of the study is to identify the opportunities and risks of big data and to identify any need for action on the part of the Confederation.
