Launch of the consultation on the new Electronic Media Act

Bern, 21.06.2018 - In the future, support for services forming part of the public service in relation to electronic media will be extended to online offerings and will no longer be limited solely to radio and television. However, financial resources will only be allocated to online services forming part of the public service which feature audio and video content rather than purely text-based content. On 20 June 2018, the Federal Council gave the green light for the consultation on the new draft Electronic Media Act (EMA). The text also provides for the creation of an independent regulatory authority to ensure greater independence from the state. The new Act also seeks to further ease the regulatory constraints on those media without a public service mandate. The EMA is required to replace the current Radio and Television Act. Interested parties have until 15 October to submit their comments.
