Higher internet speeds as part of the universal service

Bern, 10.12.2021 - The public and businesses depend on having access to reliable and high-performance broadband services throughout the country. The Federal Council therefore wants to increase the internet speeds offered in the universal service. From 2024, the service will include access to high-bandwidths of 80 Mbit/s (download) and 8 Mbit/s (upload). Provision is to be made for this in the Ordinance on Telecommunications Services. At its meeting on 10 December 2021, the Federal Council opened the consultation process on the required revision of the law. In making this change, it is meeting the demands of parliament and the cantons.
