Gigabit Strategy

People across the country should be able to access ultra-high-speed Internet. That is the aim being pursued by the Federal Council in its gigabit strategy (formerly known as high broadband strategy). To that end, it is proposing a funding programme to support the expansion of the network outside urban centres. It would be financed primarily with funds from future mobile radio frequency allocations. At its meeting on 8 December 2023, the Federal Council instructed the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) to draft a bill for consultation.
