Appliances and installations

Lists published by OFCOM

Taking international practice into account, OFCOM determines the equipment class and the apparatus comprising them. A class includes types of equipment considered to be similar and the interfaces for which this equipment is intended. One apparatus may belong to several classes of equipment (art. 5 TIO).

Technical and administrative regulations

OFCOM determines the additional essential requirements which are applicable, as well as the affected radio equipment or installation classes, taking into account the applicable delegated acts of the European Commission.

The technical interface regulations (RIR) define one part of the requirements for the offering and the placing on the market of radiocommunications equipment in Switzerland and in the Principality of Liechtenstein.

The technical interface regulations (RIR) describe the operating frequency bands, the radio parameters, the essential requirements, the channel occupation rules and the licensing regime of radiocommunications equipment in the frequency range up to 3000 GHz.

Draft interface regulations (RIR) are published for information purposes. They do not have the force of law and their contents can still undergo important modifications until officially released.

Other technical and administrative regulation related to particular equipment and installations and which can be applied inter alia to their placing on the market and/or their use.

Technical

Guides which contain an abstract of legal, technical and administrative information regarding market access and/or the operation of particular equipment in Switzerland.

Standards

Technical standards for telecommunications equipment and for the electromagnetic compatibility of electrical apparatus, which - if they are respected - establish a presumption of conformity to the essential requirements.

They are harmonized European standards enacted either by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), or by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
