Digital transmission

Digitisation of the radio and television transmission networks in Switzerland proceeds apace. With television, digital migration is complete. With radio, digital usage continues to grow and in spring 2016 was higher than FM reception for the first time.

VHF

Swiss radio broadcasters have decided to switch off FM transmitters on 31 December 2024. By reverting to the original switch off date, listeners have more time to upgrade their radios.

Broadcasting by Wire

Anyone who provides radio or television programme services in Switzerland is obliged to broadcast certain channels. This must-carry obligation concerns all telecommunication service providers that reach more than 100 households. It applies to cable networks, IPTV networks (e.g. BlueTV or Sunrise UPC) as well as virtual services that do not deploy their own networks (e.g. Zattoo or Wilmaa).
