The new universal fee system enters into force on 1 January 2019. The universal fee will then replace the current reception fee. Billag will continue to collect the reception fee until the end of 2018. From 2019, Serafe will issue invoices for the universal fee to households whereas companies will receive theirs from the Federal Tax Administration (FTA).
Ending of the current reception fee
I am registered with Billag, do I still have to pay the 2018 reception fee? I do not have any reception equipment and am not registered. Do I have to do anything? When and why will I receive a partial bill from Billag? How much is a partial bill? Why is Billag sending bills out earlier this year and why is the deadline for payment only 30 days? How did the staggered billing come about? Is it possible to request an extension of time to pay or payment by instalments? What happens to the fees which have not yet been paid when Billag's mandate ends? Why did the fee system not start at the beginning of 2018? I would have been able to save around CHF 100. What about Billag? What are the legal bases for collecting the reception fee until the end of this year?

Do I have to register with Serafe? Do changes to my housing situation (e.g. moving house or separation) have to be notified to the collection agency? Which private households can be exempted from the obligation to pay the fee? I receive an annual supplementary benefit; from what point in time will my household be exempt? I receive social benefits; can I be exempted from the fee? My father has been living in a home for a short time now. Does he have to pay the fee? I have a holiday home in Switzerland which is my secondary residence. Do I have to pay the household fee twice? I am a weekly resident. Do I have to pay the household fee twice?
