Charges and fees for radiocommunication licences

Information of this page will enable you to determine the amount of the taxes to pay.

Types of charges

One-off fee

To cover the costs of granting or amending a licence, a one-off fee is charged, at an hourly rate, as a function of the time spent on the case. However, no fee is required for name and address changes or for cancellations.

Periodic fee

The administrative costs of a licence which has been granted and for the technical frequency spectrum management are covered by annual administrative fees, the amount of which is fixed according to the type of product.

Periodic licence charge

Since frequencies are a scarce public resource, a charge is imposed for their use.

Additional fee charged for late applications

Processing of a licence application requires ideally at least ten working days. If the time up to the entry into force of the licence is shorter (two days and less), the application is considered to be late; an additional fee of CHF 50 is then charged, in accordance with the provisions of Art. 5a of the DETEC Ordinance on Fees in the Telecommunications Sector.

Collection of fees and charges

Fees and charges are collected yearly in advance. They are calculated from the month following the date of the granting of a licence. For example, if a licence is valid from April 10, the calculation of the fees and charges is drawn up for the months from May to December.

Amount of the charges

The tables below provide an overview of the periodic fees and charges according to the types of products.

Rates per licence
  Fee Charge Annual total
Radiocommunication tests CHF 450.00 CHF 48.00 CHF 498.00
Presentations CHF 312.00 CHF 48.00 CHF 360.00
Terrestrial radar CHF 144.00 CHF 48.00 CHF 192.00
PMR VHF/UHF - non-harmonized frequencies
    Annual fee Annual charge
Base-station 1), national use per 12.5 kHz bandwidth CHF 1680.00 CHF 156.00 2)
Base-station 1), regional use per 12.5 kHz bandwidth CHF 336.00 CHF 156.00 2)
Without base-station 1) per 12.5 kHz bandwidth CHF 84.00 CHF 156.00 2)

1) Any equipment of radiocommunication is considered as a base-station if it is used in connection with an antenna which is located outside of a building, no matter if this antenna is partially or completely visible. This rule applies regardless of the method by which the antenna is being fixed and regardless of the type of transceiver.

2) For this type of licence, the annual charge varies according to the number of devices notified and to national or regional use of frequencies. The basic amount of CHF 156.00 is multiplied by a coefficient calculated according to the following table:

Number of devices Coefficient, national scale Coefficient, regional scale
less than 10 1.0 0.2
11 to 30 3.5 0.7
more than 30 5.0 1.0
PMR - harmonised frequencies (example: GSM-Rail)
    Annual fee Annual charge
Base-station, national use per 12.5 kHz bandwidth CHF 50.00 CHF 156.00 2)
Base-station, regional use per 12.5 kHz bandwidth CHF 10.00 CHF 156.00 2)
Without base-station per 12.5 kHz bandwidth CHF 10.00 CHF 156.00 2)

Microwave systems, SNG/VSAT satellite and wireless video camera

The calculation of periodic charges and fees is more complex for licences for wireless video cameras, microwave systems and SNG/VSAT satellites. It is based on the texts of two ordinances.

Both ordinances are available only in German, French and Italian.
