SR 784.101.113/1.3 Emergency call requirement
These technical and administrative regulations apply to all telecommunication service providers who offer the publically available telephone service. They specify the routing of emergency calls from the calling fixed network or mobile telephone subscribers to the alarm centres of the police, the fire brigade, the Samaritans, ambulance services and helplines for children and young people. They regulate how an emergency call at the interconnection interface is forwarded from one telecommunication service provider to another and how identification of the caller's location is transferred to the emergency services. These regulations exclusively concern emergency calls, i.e. calls to numbers 112, 117, 118, 143, 144, 145 and 147.

Better location identification for emergency calls
As of 1 July 2022, emergency calls made from mobile phones must transmit more specific caller location information than before. This applies to emergency calls, whether they were made from mobile phones or placed by vehicles in the event of a car accident. Note: The published routing data now also includes routing data for the new short number 142 for victim assistance. The decisive factor for commissioning is section 2.2.4 Special provision concerning the introduction of the short number for victim assistance (142) of version 19 of the technical and administrative regulations (TAV) concerning the routing and location identification of emergency calls (see Appendix 1.3 of the Ordinance of the Federal Office of Communications of December 9, 1997, on Telecommunications Services and Addressing Elements, SR 784.101.113/1.3. The version of the TAV came into force on May 1, 2025. According to these regulations, Swisscom, as the operator of the emergency call platform, will provide the short number centrally until February 1, 2026. The other telecommunications service providers offering public telephone services must implement the relevant routing information by May 1, 2026, and ensure access to this short number.
