The telecommunications sector in figures: fixed network, mobile network and roaming, broadband in general and the market situation. OFCOM regularly publishes data on these topics and is making this available here.

The Swiss telecommunications market continues to grow, particularly in the mobile sector. As regards fixed fibre optic internet, customers tend to prefer high-speed connections.

In 2024, the volume of data downloaded by mobile subscribers continued to grow at the same pace as the previous year (2024: +12.7%; 2023: +12.3%), while the number of subscriptions increased by a smaller amount, up 2.5% to a total of around 9.9 million. Unsurprisingly, in terms of the number of communications, mobile telephony remains by far the dominant category. Only 13.0% of calls are still made from a fixed line. Moreover, the number of traditional voice calls is declining for both fixed and mobile networks.

With 4.2 million subscribers, fixed Internet remained stable compared with the previous year (+0.3%), with a decrease in copper lines (-5.8%) in favour of fibre optics (+11.3%), leading to faster connections. Furthermore, 73.7% of fibre-optic subscriptions offer a connection speed equivalent to 10 Gbit/s, the highest transmission speed available. Finally, the number of machine-to-machine (M2M) subscriptions continues to grow, albeit at a slightly slower rate than in previous years, rising from 4.6 to 5.2 million (+14.3%), according to the final telecommunications statistics.
