Use of the fee revenue

The revenue from the fee, approximately CHF 1.37 billion annually, will be used to fund the radio/television programme services of the SSR SRG and for licensed commercial broadcasters (local radio stations and commercial television channels). In this way, the public service will be guaranteed in all parts of the country and democracy will be strengthened; the entire country and all its inhabitants will benefit.

Fee-splitting for SRF

SRG will receive CHF 1.25 billion from the fee for the years 2025/2026. From 2020-2024, it received full compensation for inflation (2024: CHF 69 million). For 2025/2026, the Federal Council decided on 19 June 2024 that SRG will no longer receive compensation for inflation or will no longer receive it in full. As such, SRG will receive CHF 35 million in 2025. Any compensation for inflation in 2026 will depend on how fee revenue develops.

Federal Council rejects SRG SSR initiative and proposes reducing fee to CHF 300 instead

Fee-splitting for private radio and television stations

Since 1 January 2019, fee-sharing local radio and regional television broadcasters have received a total of 6 per cent of the fee revenue. From 2025, CHF 86 million will be available (2024: CHF 81 million). As of 2016, the Law on Radio and Television stipulates that financial support for local radio and regional television stations may amount to 4 to 6 per cent of the revenue from the radio and television fee. The Federal Council decided to increase the percentage from 4 per cent to 5 per cent on 1 July 2016. It has set it at 6 per cent from 2019.

More detailed information about administration of fee-splitting and other documentation can be found in the German, French and Italian language versions.
