Electromagnetic compatibility

Electromagnetic compatibility is the ability of equipment to function satisfactorily in its electromagnetic environment without causing unacceptable electromagnetic disturbances to other equipment in the same environment.

OFCOM is the technical competence centre of the Swiss Confederation for the electromagnetic compatibility of telecommunications systems. Our EMC / EMC-E technical centre has at its disposal the know-how and equipment necessary for carrying out technical inspections and measurements of all types.

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and mobile radio base stations factsheet

All transmitters, including mobile radio base stations, generate electromagnetic fields which can affect electrical equipments and installations. In the following fact sheet, OFCOM outlines how such incidences can be dealt with at the planning permission stage for mobile radio installations (and other fixed transmitter equipment).

A factsheet is available in German, French and Italian and in pdf format only.

Disturbances EMC

The technical centre is also frequently involved in the event of interference to radio and TV reception, as well as interference to radio traffic. In case of such disturbances, please consult the heading disturbances.

Photovoltaic systems

Electromagnetic compatibility of heat pumps

Heat pumps can cause significant interference to radio services. OFCOM inspects such systems and can impose sanctions, including switch off, in the event of violations. The following information sheet outlines the requirements for the electromagnetic compatibility of heat pumps.
