Radio usage in autumn 2024 (before the SRG's FM switch-off)

In autumn 2024, shortly before the SRG’s FM switch-off, the Digital Migration working group once again collected figures on radio usage.

The results of the study show that the majority of the Swiss population has already made the switch to digital radio: only 8% of the population were still listening to radio exclusively via FM according to the last survey in autumn 2024; 83 out of 100 radio minutes listened to were transmitted digitally via DAB+ or the internet.

Digital listening therefore reached a peak since measurements began in 2015. The digital broadcasting channels DAB+ and internet radio were used about equally (42 and 41 out of 100 minutes respectively). The majority of radio use still takes place at home: 60% of listening minutes are spent within one's own four walls, 20% at work and almost 14% in the car. This distribution has been stable for years.

In all language regions only 8% of the population listened to the radio exclusively via FM. In previous years, this figure was slightly higher in French and Italian-speaking Switzerland than in German-speaking Switzerland. This means that FM-only listening has fallen by 16 percentage points since 2015.
