Electromagnetic compatibility
EMC stands for electromagnetic compatibility. By this we understand, on the one hand, the cross interference of technical equipment caused by electromagnetic waves (EMC in the narrow sense) and, on the other hand, the effects of electromagnetic waves on man and the environment (EMC-E). OFCOM maintains a competence centre covering the technical aspects of EMC and EMC-E.
OFCOM is the technical competence centre of the Swiss Confederation for the electromagnetic compatibility of telecommunications systems. Our EMC / EMC-E technical centre has at its disposal the know-how and equipment necessary for carrying out technical inspections and measurements of all types.
All transmitters, including mobile radio base stations, generate electromagnetic fields which can affect electrical equipments and installations. In the following fact sheet, OFCOM outlines how such incidences can be dealt with at the planning permission stage for mobile radio installations (and other fixed transmitter equipment).
A factsheet is available in German, French and Italian and in pdf format only.

The technical centre is also frequently involved in the event of interference to radio and TV reception, as well as interference to radio traffic. In case of such disturbances, please consult the heading disturbances.
