Terrestrial mobile network infrastructures

It was decided to collect information on the coverage rate of mobile networks in order to ascertain the extent of the terrestrial mobile network infrastructure. The coverage rate can be expressed in relation to two different bases. Geographic coverage rate is the ratio of the area served by a network and the total surface area of a country or a given region (Table IM1A). The population coverage rate is the ratio of the population served by a network to the total population of a country or a given region (Table IM1B).

Coverage rates as of 31.12, as % of the national surface area (Table IM1A )
Year GSM network UMTS network LTE network 5G network
2017 88 86 80 a)
2018 88 86 87 a)
2019 88 86 88 56
2020 88 86 88 74
2021 87 91 97 74
2022 86 91 98 92
a) This information was not collected before 2019.
