Radio: FM switch-off from 31.12.2024

SRG SSR ceased radio broadcasting on FM throughout Switzerland on 31 December 2024. SRG SSR programmes continue to be available on DAB+ and the internet. Local radio stations decide themselves when to stop broadcasting on FM.

From 2025, SRG SSR no longer broadcasts its radio programmes on FM. Listeners can continue to receive programmes throughout Switzerland on DAB+. SRG also broadcasts all of its programmes via the internet. Local radio stations can decide on an individual basis when to switch off their FM transmitter sites. Some transmitters will already be switched off at the end of 2024. More detailed information can be obtained directly from the respective radio broadcasters.

The radio industry has been preparing for the transition to DAB+ for over ten years. Audiences now primarily listen to the radio via digital channels. On 25 October 2023, the Federal Council extended the FM radio licences a final time, until the end of 2026, in order to give radio broadcasters more time for the migration process. Radio broadcasters may discontinue analogue broadcasting earlier if they wish. There has been no obligation to broadcast programmes via FM since 2020.
