Federal Council opts for self-regulation of the media

Berne, 29.06.2011 - The media are facing some difficult challenges. This is the conclusion drawn by the Federal Council in a report in response to a postulate submitted by National Council member Hans-Jürg Fehr. Conscious of the role which the media play in the democratic process and in forming public opinion, however, the Federal Council considers that it is up to the industry to keep pace with constant structural change. For the time being, the Federal Council is forgoing any new state measures of support and will carry out another assessment of the situation in four years.
