The future household charge will be collected by Serafe AG, subsidiary of Secon AG, from 2019: after a public tender procedure, the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) awarded the mandate to Serafe AG on 7 March 2017. Billag will continue to collect the reception fees until the end of the current system. As soon as the new charging system is introduced, provisionally from 1 January 2019, Serafe AG will be responsible for collection of the device-independent household charge.
