High-quality public service broadcasting impossible without radio and television reception fees

Bern, 19.10.2016 - The Federal Council is recommending that Parliament rejects the Federal popular initiative "Yes to the abolition of the radio and television licence fees (abolition of Billag fees)". At its meeting on 19 October 2016, it passed the corresponding Federal Dispatch to Parliament. As the Federal Council set out in its report on a review of the definition and services of the public service published on 17 June 2016, Switzerland requires a high-quality public service in all language regions of the country. Abolition of fees would mean that the SRG and private broadcasters, who receive a portion of the fees, would no longer be able to fulfil their mandates.
